Designing an athletic track is a complex process that requires a comprehensive approach. Every detail, from the type of surface to the slope of the field, must be carefully considered in order to create optimal conditions for training and competition. Choosing the right material is key to achieving optimal performance and ensuring athlete safety. Modern synthetic materials, such as tartan, provide an excellent combination of grip and elasticity, which enables faster running, less stress on the joints and reduces the risk of injury. In addition, these materials are resistant to weather conditions and wear, thus ensuring the longevity of the track.

Each athletic discipline has specific requirements for the surface. Materials for sprint tracks should ensure maximum acceleration, while materials for jumping disciplines must be elastic enough to absorb the landing force. Therefore, material selection is a complex process that requires detailed knowledge of various athletic disciplines.

In addition to materials, other design elements are important, such as track dimensions, grade, drainage, markings and equipment. A properly designed trail must comply with international standards and ensure the safety of all users.

The athletic track is not only a sports surface, but also an integral part of a wider sports complex. Therefore, it is important that it harmoniously fits into the environment and creates a pleasant atmosphere for all users. The athletic track consists of four 333 m circular athletic track and six 100 m running tracks. In the western semi-circle, there are competition areas - pole vault, long jump runway and pit for landing and high jump, while the shot put pit is positioned to the east of the semi-circle. The final treatment is a 13mm thick waterproof synthetic lining in accordance with IAAF standards, as well as the necessary athletic equipment itself.

The basketball court is built on a synthetic covering measuring 28 m x 15 m with a protective belt of 2 m in all directions, the court is located on the east side inside the circular athletic track. The final treatment is a 16mm thick waterproof synthetic lining in accordance with FIBA standards, as well as the necessary equipment.

The handball court is built on a synthetic surface measuring 20 m x 40 m with a protective belt of 2 m in the lateral directions and 3 m behind the goals, the court is located on the east side inside the circular athletic track west of the basketball court. The final treatment is a waterproof acrylic substrate with a thickness of 1 mm in accordance with IHF standards, as well as the necessary equipment.

The mini-soccer field is built on a synthetic surface made of artificial grass measuring 20 m x 40 m with a protective zone of 2 m in the lateral directions and 3 m behind the goals, the field is located on the west side inside the circular athletic track west of the handball court. The final treatment is a 3.8 mm thick artificial grass waterproof surface filled with quartz sand and SBR granules, all in accordance with FIFA standards, as well as the necessary equipment.

The volleyball court is built on a synthetic surface measuring 18 m x 9 m with a protective belt of 4 m in the lateral directions and 6 m behind the service lines, the court is located on the west side inside the circular athletics track west of the indoor soccer field. The final treatment is a 16mm thick waterproof synthetic lining in accordance with FIVB standards, as well as the necessary equipment.

The field for the border guard is built on a synthetic surface measuring 24 m x 15 m with a protective belt of 3.5 m in the lateral directions and 3 m behind the main lines, the field is located on the southeast side inside the circular athletics track. The final treatment is a 16mm thick water-permeable synthetic covering in accordance with the standards for playing border guards in Croatia.

The outdoor exercise area is built on a synthetic surface made of artificial grass measuring 24 m x 15 m with quartz sand filling, on which the exercise equipment is placed.

Behind the sports fields for handball, indoor soccer and volleyball, a protective net of 5.0 m height made of PP mesh on aluminum poles is placed on the south and north sides.

A pedestrian path is being built between the sports fields with a width of 2.0 m to 3.5 m as a pedestrian communication from the school itself to the sports fields with a finishing of concrete pavers.

On the eastern, northern and western sides, on the edge of the building plot in question, a fence panel with a height of 1.8 m is constructed to ensure a controlled entrance to the school premises and the playgrounds themselves.

RECONSTRUCTION OF ATHLETIC RUNNING FIELD AND ATHLETIC COMPETITION FIELD PULA, SCR VERUDA

The subject of the implementation project is the reconstruction of the racetrack and fighting arena in Pula, the SRC VERUDA Stadium. The athletic track and fighting grounds, as well as playgrounds for small sports, were built in 1986 and have not been renovated until now.

The jumping platform for the long jump and triple jump completely remains in the same location with the replacement of the synthetic coating and reflective boards, and the construction of a sand shaker next to the existing landing pads.
The pole vaulting area is located in the existing location with the modification of the synthetic lining and the stab boxes for the poles with the possibility of jumping in both directions.
The ball pit remains in the same location. The circle is moved due to the proximity of the start to 100 and 110m. The angle of the throw is aligned with the current rules (34.92º instead of 40º).

The high jump platform does not have a fixed location. The plan shows the location of the landing area, where the length of the runway is 15 m to the edge of the first track, or over 25 m to the outer edge of the racetrack (only for top jumpers).
The position of the water obstacle in the transverse direction changes by 70 cm. The existing obstacle is right next to the first track. According to current rules, the length of the barrier beam is 396 cm, and it exceeds the width of the pit by 15 cm, which is 366 cm wide. In addition, it is necessary to move away from the first track due to psychological reasons (closeness to the pit) and the possibility of injury (hitting the beam with your hand). The water obstacle is in the finish zone for medium and long tracks, where the battle for the best possible position at the end of the race is fought. A straight section of the track to the approach and after the jump over the pit is planned, so that the runners do not jump out of the turn, that is, from the jump they run immediately into the turn. According to the current rule, the depth of the pit is 50 cm, not 70 cm as it was designed.
The existing road construction is made of asphalt with a thickness of approx. 8 cm and a buffer layer of approx. 25-30 cm.
On the racetrack, in the northern and southern parts of the semi-circle, milling of the existing 13mm synthetic lining and approx. 2cm of asphalt is planned, except for the southeastern part of the racetrack, which is completely removed as indicated in the graphic section.
Drainage is provided by the existing channels on the straight part, while in the part of the semicircles, a new storm drain is provided, as shown in the graphic attachment. The new channels are of the "slice" type, like the Aco Sport system 1500 for a radius of 35.65 m. The channels are connected to the existing one by a new secondary channel, as shown in the graphic attachment. The existing channels are partially removed, while the remaining channels are left with the removal of the edges of the channels 10x10 cm on both sides and the removal of the covers, and they are covered with sand up to the bed.

The large-scale football field is built on natural grass, around which there is a 400 m circular athletic track made of synthetic covering with fighting fields. On the outer part, outside the lines of the football field, at a distance of 10 cm from the line, artificial grass is placed up to the edge of the athletics track and fighting field. According to the request of the investor, it is necessary to build a large football field with dimensions of 68 m x 105 m on natural grass, which is located on the eastern side of the sports park. After installing drainage and irrigation, fill the layers with a pestle in layers of 15 cm in 8/16 mm granulation with compaction, and a 10 cm layer of 4-8 cm granulation. After the built-in crushed stone layers, a floor layer of 25 cm high is made of quartz sand (clean and washed granulation 0/3 mm). 0.180mm to 17%; 0.5mm to 11.4%; 1mm to 9.4% 1%. The permissible oscillation of passing through the quartz sand sieve is 3%)). Then the installation of fertilizer for the creation of a fertile layer such as MALTaflor Seed-o-gran PLUS. Sod from EU manufacturers of top quality for sports football lawns is installed on the arranged fertile layer. Sod thickness 3 cm. roll width 1.2 meters, sod length 15 meters. After laying, the sod is rolled with light, smooth rollers. According to the request of the investor, it is necessary to install artificial grass between the large football field and the athletics track. Artificial grass is placed 10 cm from the line delimiting the playground, separated by a plastic corrugated element below the ground level. The artificial grass is of the type "Polytan LigaGrass 238" 10/4, blade thickness 200 microns, 8,000 Dtex, seam density 100/m, 100% PE Polytan technology with 4 monofilament twisted (curly) fibers with a unique double anti-allergic and anti-fungal backing and perforations for storm water drainage. Fiber weight approx. 730 g/m2, total weight of artificial grass approx. 1,950 g/m2. It is delivered in rolls with a width of 4 m, and is joined with special connecting tapes and Polytan single-component polyurethane glue. Dry quartz sand 0.2 - 0.9 mm (15 kg/m2) and SBR colored green rubber granulate 0.5 - 2.0 mm (6.0 kg/m2) are used as filling. The height of the artificial grass fibers is 38 mm. The total height after pouring the material is 31 mm (due to twisted fibers).
The newly designed athletics track is constructed around a large soccer field (main) circular, 400 m long with an inner radius of 36.50 m, and equipped according to the standards of the IAAF (World Athletics Federation). The racetrack consists of four circular tracks (total width 5.13 m) 400 m long, measured 30 cm from the aluminum curb that marks the first track.
In the direction, it is planned to run on 6 racing flat tracks (total width of 7.57 m) with a length of 100 and 110 m (obstacles) with a running length of 26.94 m behind the finish line. The width of the strips is 122 cm, and they are bordered with 5 cm thick lines
Before the start, the conditions of 3.0 m from the curb to the starting line are ensured.
On the racetrack itself, it is necessary to draw all the longitudinal and transverse lines necessary for all athletic disciplines in accordance with the standards of the IAAF (World Athletics Federation).
The racetrack is built over the entire surface with a final layer of synthetic covering.
The racetrack is bordered by concrete curbs with a rubber final "cap" made of rubber (white color), which reduces the possibility of injury in the event of a fall, and on the inner part of the racetrack, a rain channel made of concrete with a final synthetic lining is installed.
The final layer of the athletics track and field is a synthetic waterproof covering of the type POLYTAN WS or equivalent with a total thickness of 15.3 mm, which is carried out on site at the race track, except for a thicker layer of 20 or 25 mm on the parts where the load is greater, and conditioned by the IAAF rules.
It is necessary to make complete new layers of bedding, on which it is necessary to install min. buffer layer thickness 0/60mm of 35 cm, two waterproof asphalt layers, PA 16 50/70 AG4 M waterproof (≥0.01cm/s) 5cm thick and PA 8 50/70 AG4 M4 waterproof (≥0.01cm/s) 3 cm thick. Apply basic asphalt primer to the waterproof layer of asphalt, and concrete primer to the concrete channels, then apply the bottom layer of SBR rubber aggregate (granulation 1-4, black color) 11 mm thick, connected with polyurethane binder. The upper layer of EPDM granules (granulation 0.5-1.5, red color) with a 4 mm thick polyurethane binder is applied by spraying in three passes on the lower substrate.
Performance according to the recipe and technology of the performer for which there is a valid IAAF (International Athletics Federation) certificate.
The large football field is built on artificial grass in the western part of the sports park as an auxiliary field to the main field. The artificial grass is of the type "POLYTAN LIGATURF RS+ WORLD CUP EDITION CP 240 16/4" or equivalent that meets the criteria of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) for obtaining the FIFA QUALITY PRO certificate. Blade thickness 360 microns, 13,000 Dtex, seam density 160/m, 100% PE Polytan technology with 6 monofilament fibers with a unique double anti-allergic and anti-fungal backing and perforations for drainage of rainwater. Fiber weight approx. 1000 g/m2, total weight of artificial grass approx. 2,190 g/m2. It is delivered in rolls with a width of 4 m, and is joined with special connecting tapes and Polytan one-component polyurethane glue. Dry quartz sand (sieved in an amount of 19 kg/m2) is used as filling. The dry quartz sand must have a granulation between 0.3-0.8 mm, with the maximum amount below 0.3 mm being allowed to be 8%, of which a maximum of 2% below 0.1 mm. The maximum amount above 1.0 mm may be 1%. In the sieving curve, 40-70% of the total amount must be 0.5 mm in diameter) and installation of EPDM granulate from recycled material, granulation 0. .8 - 2.5 mm. It is poured by machine in the amount of 9 kg/m2. The height of the artificial grass fibers is 40 mm.
In accordance with the request of the investor, it is necessary to build a multi-sports court measuring 34.50 m x 50 m, on which the lines for sports (basketball, volleyball, handball and indoor soccer) are drawn. Performance of the final multilayer highly elastic system based on acrylic resins for multifunctional sports fields MAPECOAT TNS MULTISPORT PROFESSIONAL, total thickness up to 1.5 mm on a previously prepared asphalt base.
According to the request of the investor, it is necessary to build two tennis courts next to each other on a dimension of 29.32 m x 33.10 m, on which the lines for two tennis courts are drawn. Performance of the final multi-layer highly elastic system based on acrylic resins for MAPECOAT TNS COMFORT tennis courts, total thickness 5.5-6.5 mm on a previously prepared asphalt base. The floor consists of the following layers: application of the ADESILEX G19 base layer, then the cushioning base made of SBR granules MAPECOMFORT, then MAPECOAT TNS PRIMER EPW and the final layer on the field MAPECOAT TNS FINISH 1.3.4. The floor is intended for outdoor spaces and is extremely wear-resistant.
